When models walked the Spring/Summer 2011 Prada runway swinging brightly colored decadent fox fur stoles at their sides, they instantly added an air of luxury to the lighthearted collection. Though it is not yet spring, the fashion flock has embraced the over-the-top accessory and is appearing out and about, brightening up their winter wardrobes with Prada’s eye-catching stoles.
At the menswear shows in Milan in mid-January, Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon, was spotted wearing two different versions of the Prada stole. Dello Russo emphasized the pink in her gingham bowtie (at left) by accessorizing with a bright pink, and black and white striped stole as seen in the streets of Milan, and at the DSquared Show (at right) she broke out a baby blue and white version of the stole to complement her Comme des Garçons suit. “She must have bought that fur stole in all colors,” guessed xPedro.
Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style and Accessories Director at Marie Claire, took a more understated approach when she wore a navy and white version of the stole to the 2011 GEM Awards. “Love the way she wears the Prada stole,” said Wolkfolk. “Finally someone who shows some ingenuity, instead of only holding it.”
Shala Monroque, Editor-at-Large for Pop Magazine, and fashion designer Marc Jacobs both wore the black and green stripes with baby blue fox fur stole. “Did I miss the memo that those stoles were, in fact, to be worn as scarves?” laughed mikeijames. “It’s funny that [Shala] and Marc both wore the same stole the same way halfway across the world from each other.”
Ever on the cutting edge, even Rihanna can be seen rocking a Prada stole in the recently released music video for her song “S&M”. “If a single piece of fur makes me watch a video of Rihanna, there really must be something about it,” joked mackos.
It is probably safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of these Prada stoles. Could we be on the cusp of a new fashion phenomenon? As mikeijames said, “Miuccia Prada has got a hit on her hands, no?”
