Just in case their first cover featuring Chinese model Sui He photographed by Max Vadukul in collaboration with artist Ai Weiwei is too controversial for some, W did a second cover featuring Nicki Minaj photographed by Francesco Vezzoli. She may have gotten tongues wagging by sitting next to Anna Wintour at the Carolina Herrera runway show, but it looks like W beat Vogue to the punch if they were looking to feature her on the cover.
“From what I can see Nicki's cover looks beautiful. I love the vibe I'm getting from it. It’s a great alternative for those who aren't drawn to Sui's cover,” YourMonster wrote.
“I'm not really a fan of Nicki but from what I can see that's a pretty beautiful cover,” YoninahAliza posted. “And I like that the two covers are so different from each other,” she added.
“Nicki nailed this one perfectly,” cottonmouth13 declared. “So much love for her editorial. It's simply beautiful.”
Not everyone was in love with Nicki’s images but she seems like a good match with Francesco Vezzoli and it’s always fun to see a public figure undergo a transformation and embody a different role or persona. I’ll be curious to see which cover actually comes in the mail when I get my copy of this issue. I'm thinking W will be brave enough to put the Sui He cover in the hands of subscribers but the majority of the newsstand copies will feature Nicki Minaj.
Here are Nicki's editorial images:
