Waiwah is a Toronto-based swimwear label founded by Ryerson University graduate Natalie Waiwah Leung. Setting her apart from other designers, Leung worked as the Resident Costume Designer and Head of Wardrobe at Canada’s National Ballet School, where stretchy, skimpy things were put through their paces. Having worked closely with dancers for a number of years, Waiwah has gained a unique perspective on the form and function of bodywear, resulting in her employ for the likes of Canadian designers Fortnight, Jeremy Laing and Virginia Johnson.
Accordingly, Waiwah swimwear is designed to enhance a woman's natural form through high quality, exceptional fit and lasting elegance. The Spring/Summer 2014 debut collection is inspired by a love for water and the feminine spirit. One-pieces reign supreme – which is ideal for those who opt for swimming more than lounging – while cut-outs and pastel hues offer feminine touches.
Increasingly, the skimpy two-piece bikini is being pushed to the back of the closet or pulled from our bodies with a tidal wave, making retro onesies the new modern. In Waiwah’s styles, secure straps and classic leg cuts keep everything where it’s supposed to be, paying close attention to the way the body moves and giving you a svelte dancer’s silhouette as you frolic in surf.
