TOMS is making a push to help mommies-to-be in disadvantaged communities by delving into the world of handbags. The do-gooder label unveiled its new range of carryalls, proceeds from which will, of course, go to a good cause. Sticking to the label’s crunchy granola appeal, the bags come in perforated leather options, woven pattern details and a good sprinkling of beading to boot. Envelope clutches round out the selection as well as a diaper bag, which founder Blake Mycoskie told WWD he added when he found out his wife was pregnant.
For every one of the bags purchased, the company will donate a birth kit to a woman in need. A cord clamp, surgical blade, clean surface, gloves and soap will go to each mother to help ensure that her baby enters the world in a sanitary, healthy way. The bags are expected to drop for Spring 2015.
