Naomi Scott Serves Retro Glam on British Vogue’s Stunning April Cover

We half expected to see Lady Gaga on the cover of British Vogue this month, but in true Edward Enninful fashion, he surprises us for April 2019. Moving on from one Naomi [Campbell] to another, Enninful taps actress Naomi Scott as his latest cover girl — a welcome change from the usual suspects. British photographer Nick Knight delivers a stunning, retro glam portrait of Naomi, who unmistakably wears a look from Prada’s Spring 2019 collection, styled by Kate Phelan.

The cover was an instant hit with our forum members. “I’m actually here for this. There’s something quite retro about it all. Nice to see Nick back on the covers too. Nice to see them selecting an up and coming star too,” applauded honeycombchild.

“Stunning! This is what I’m talking about Edward! This is gorgeous, and that art direction is a step in the right direction,” admired MON.

“This is stunning and I’m here for it. The makeup is lovely and she’s beautiful,” complimented littlekiki.

Gisele Bündchen Stars on Vogue Germany’s Disappointing April Cover

Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Vogue Germany has been putting out mostly dud covers since January — and not getting much attention on our forums as a result. A surefire way to get back on our radar? Feature Gisele Bündchen on the April 2019 cover. The Brazilian bombshell and forum favorite shows all cover girls before her exactly how it’s done in the sultry cover photo while getting us hyped for the warmer months ahead. Photographed by Luigi & Iango and styled by Paul Cavaco, Gisele was captured on location in Costa Rica emerging from the (murky) surf.

Unfortunately, members of our forums felt the cover was far from brilliant. “This does not look inviting at all. Vogue Paris on a budget and beyond deadline. The background doesn’t look inviting at all. Was there a storm coming? The hair is a big no. Look at that huge clump of hair on her neck!” MON pointed out.

“I like Gisele but this is all very boring, lazy and repetitive,” wrote Morgane07.

“Why does everything look so… dirty? I guess they were going for a raw and natural setting but to me it doesn’t work. It’s also a very strange shoot for Vogue Germany…no I’m not convinced by this,” said apple.

Gigi Hadid Is Back on the Cover of Vogue Arabia, Celebrating the Magazine’s Two-Year Anniversary for March 2019

You might find it hard to believe that Vogue Arabia is celebrating its two-year anniversary this month — because we sure did. Ever since hitting the newsstands back in 2017, the publication has been crushing boundaries and giving covers to subjects most other magazines wouldn’t dare use, like Halima Aden, Nora Attal, Iman, Paloma Elsesser and Nicki Minaj. To commemorate 24 months on the newsstand racks, Arabian Vogue welcomes back its very first cover girl: Gigi Hadid. Photographed by Peter Lindbergh and styled by Katie Trotter, the current cover girl of American ELLE and Vogue Hong Kong was photographed in Paris, starring in one of Lindbergh’s signature fashion portfolios.

The covers proved to be more of the same-old for our forum members. “Another day another Hadid cover,” sighed SophiaVB.

“She still not over? No wonder print is dying, the way magazines are so desperate for the crumbs tossed by this type of social media ‘influencers’ is an undignified spectacle,” Les_Sucettes chimed in.

“I like everything but her face on the first cover. Still can’t model if her life depended on it,” mocked khyrk.

Taylor Swift Tries to Make a Questionable Yellow Gucci Number Happen on UK ELLE’s April Cover

We have a feeling we’re about to see a whole lot more of Taylor Swift over the next few months as the American songstress gets us hyped for the release of potential new music. Rumors on our forums are swirling that Taylor signed one of ELLE‘s global deals (à la Selena Gomez and Rihanna) and is set to front multiple editions of the glossy in the same month. True to speculation, first up is Taylor on UK ELLE for April 2019. Marking her debut on the British fashion monthly, Taylor was photographed by Quentin Jones doing little else but standing with her arms folded while wearing a vibrant Gucci number styled by Anne-Marie Curtis in the newsstand cover (below).

According to our forum members, the cover was a major flop. “What happened to ELLE UK? The relaunch started out very strong. It was fresh. It had a vision, but now, you could mistake this for a circa 2010-2012 cover. Even the art direction is slowly reverting back to its old self. Terribly disappointing,” MON said the moment the cover struck.

“Yikes, what a messy cover! What’s the deal with that cheap pink paneling, and whose idea was it to use the dress as a backdrop? Arguably one of their worst covers since the redesign,” noted Benn98.

“I don’t despise it but it’s certainly not what I’ve come to expect from ELLE UK. Their redesign seems to have just diluted back into what we’ve seen before. Perhaps it wasn’t selling and the decision was made to revert back somewhat. Shame,” echoed honeycombchild.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Final Campaign for Fendi Features Kaia Gerber, Adut Akech and Anok Yai

When our forums got an exclusive first look at Fendi’s Spring 2019 advertising campaign, we could never have imagined it would be Karl Lagerfeld‘s last. The legendary fashion designer was the creative director of the Italian fashion label (alongside Silvia Venturini Fendi) for over 50 years and served as photographer for just about every Fendi campaign. For Spring 2019, Lagerfeld selected models Kaia Gerber, Adut Akech and Anok Yai as the faces of the utility-inspired collection. The trio posed in front of a clean white backdrop at Lagerfeld’s Paris-based studio, with Charlotte Stockdale and Katie Lyall on styling duty.

Per usual with a multi-girl campaign, certain models steal the spotlight with the others fading into the background. “Kaia’s cute, but here, she needs to sit down out of shot and just watch the other girls work, in every sense of the word,” commented tigerrouge.

“Adut is such a star! And she and Anok form such a good pair. The addition of Kaia is so unnecessary for this campaign,” said mikel.

“I like Kaia, but she’s miscast in this. It should have been Adut and Anok only. They are more than enough. What a strong duo,” guimon said.

Gigi Hadid and Fei Fei Sun Star on the Debut Issue of Vogue Hong Kong

With the number of print publications shutting down, on the brink of folding or switching to a digital-only format, the launch of a new print publication is major news. Today, Vogue has launched its newest international edition: Vogue Hong Kong, much to the delight of fashion fans. After successful debuts of Vogue Poland and Vogue Czechoslovakia, Condé Nast first broke the news back in October that a Hong Kong edition was in the works. The wait is finally over as the magazine celebrates its debut in style with the unveiling of three dynamic covers featuring models Gigi Hadid and Fei Fei Sun wearing looks from Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring 2019 collection, shot by British photographer Nick Knight.

Members of our forums, however, weren’t so convinced. “I’m a sucker for futuristic themed fashion images, so I applaud them and Knight for going with this. However the casting and styling is all wrong. I think that bejeweled bathing suit is positively ugly, and what’s with the tawdry looking cleavage? Gigi more than ever looks like a sex doll here, and not in a witty Barbarella way,” said Benn98.

“Premiere issues should always, IMO, present what the edition has to offer. Sadly, this cover just showed recycled creativity. The concept, recycled. The art direction, recycled. A terrible way to start,” called out MON.

“What a letdown…Gigi’s face is as lifeless as usual,” voiced kasper.
