Sephora Denies Wrongdoing in Beauty Insider Sale Discrimination Suit

Image: Sephora

Image: Sephora

Sephora is coming out to deny that the site intended to discriminate against Asian customers during its Insider sale. Shoppers claimed that they were barred from using their Sephora premium VIB membership accounts to access the sale online. A class action lawsuit has been brought against the beauty retailer by four Asian customers, who say their accounts and several others bearing Asian-sounding last names were blocked when they tried to log in and purchase the discounted goods.

The plaintiffs say that the store blocked their accounts “based on the ill-founded and discriminatory belief that all Chinese/Asian customers abuse discount sales to engage in bulk purchasing for resale.” Several accounts with Asian-sounding email addresses and a few Asian web addresses were deactivated during the sale. While Sephora denies any wrongdoing, a Facebook message posted on the retailer’s page claims it shut down so many accounts because of “high levels of bulk buys for reselling purposes in North America and other countries.”

Sephora is confident that it will be proved innocent in court of any kind of intentional discrimination and looks “forward to defending [their] actions” at the trial.

Naomi Watts Stars on Harper’s Bazaar Germany’s ‘Stunning’ December/January Cover (Forum Buzz)

Harper’s Bazaar Germany impressed us last month by tapping Taylor Swift for its November cover and now Naomi Watts stuns on the magazine’s latest issue. For its December 2014/January 2015 issue, the actress sat for Max Farago, creating a classic portrait cover image with Naomi wearing a jumpsuit from Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring 2015 collection. Have magazines forgotten about the resort shows?

Harper's Bazaar Germany Dec 14 / Jan 15 Noami Watts

We were first treated to a preview of the subscriber’s cover, which our forum members loved. “I didn’t expect a so minimalistic cover for December. It’s [a] nice surprise for me. Naomi looks great styling in that way,” commented a pleasantly surprised narcyza.

“Nice shoot, I like it,” added an enthusiastic GIVENCHYlover.

The newsstand cover (pictured above), alongside a preview of Naomi’s cover story, soon surfaced inside the thread. Benn98 immediately shared his feelings with us: “Yet another stunning newsstand cover. If I must nitpick then I’d bin the multi coloured masthead, otherwise everything looks season appropriate. Her edit preview looks very basic for December. I’m not overfond of Naomi, I’ve always found her interviews very dull.”

“Awful Photoshop around the eyes. I like everything about the newsstand cover but the hair. Actually, I like it better than the subscriber’s,” credited kokobombon.

GlamorousBoy disapproved and thinks the “newsstand cover is horrendous…”

Thanks to Zorka, we can view the entire December/January issue inside the thread. There are some terrific stories with appearances from models, such as Iris Strubegger, Maud Welzen and Naty Chabanenko. Be sure to check them out and share your own opinion with us here.

Kendall Jenner to Front Karl Lagerfeld’s Next Campaign

It’s a good week to be Kendall Jenner. The buzzy model just announced that she inked a contract to be the face of Estée Lauder, will likely walk in Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show (there’s always next year to do Victoria’s Secret) and now, she’s been tapped to front Karl Lagerfeld’s next campaign.

Lagerfeld has taken quite a liking to Kendall, casting her in past shows for Chanel and Fendi. With the press that comes with her name, it makes perfect sense why the designer would choose her for his next act. After all, she is the biggest name of all the models scheduled to appear in the campaign that also includes Ming Xi, Baptiste Giabiconi and Sasha Luss.

This has clearly been a big year for Kendall’s modeling career, and it looks like she is going to continue her rise to the top of the modeling industry in 2015. With that Estée Lauder contract plus this (and likely other) high-profile campaigns under her belt, Kendall’s shaping up to be inescapable next year.

Jesinta Campbell, Samantha Harris Stun at AWOL Launch

Models Jesinta Campbell and Samantha Harris stepped out for the launch of Qantas and Sound Alliance’s new travel title, AWOL, at Sydney’s 1346Venice last night, rocking two very different, yet noteworthy, looks.

Jesinta chose a black midriff-baring dress by lace legends Lover, featuring a front criss-cross bodice and slim-fitting pencil midi skirt to the bottom. She added metallic Stuart Weitzman pointy pumps, which we would’ve preferred in black as the glitzy Alexander McQueen clutch bag and gold arm cuff already mixed things up enough. We loved the statement red lip and soft balayaged waves, though. (more…)

Much Latex, Little Time for Kim Kardashian in Melbourne

Kim Kardashian

Photo: Scott Barbour/Getty

In case you haven’t heard, Kim Kardashian is developing a bit of a fetish for latex during her time here in Australia. Yesterday she popped into Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre to promote her new fragrance Fleur Fatale, and thought a skintight latex pencil skirt was the appropriate wardrobe choice to meet her fans of all ages.

She could probably wear a shapeless muumuu and still manage to show off her bewildering curves, so we’re not quite sure why she continues to wear fabric fit for a dominatrix. At least this time she didn’t double up on latex like her red carpet appearance earlier in the week, and chose to break it up with a high-neck David Koma top with chic white piping.

She turned to her favourite Atsuko Kudo for the white-latex midi skirt, and teamed the getup with neutral two-strap heels. Her slick middle-parted low pony and dark-plum lips were to die for, and we actually would’ve praised this outfit if she traded up the latex for, well, anything else.
