Ever since H&M decided to hire top couture designers including Victor and Rolf, Roberto Cavalli and Karl Lagerfield to design seasonal collections, my wardrobe has transformed into a closet of inexpensive collectibles and my wallet couldn’t be happier. I was very excited to hear that H&M has announced its latest capsule collaborator Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons as the next visionary for their brand.
The famous avante-garde Japanese designer will create collections for men, women and children along with a few accessories and a unisex fragrance. The unveiling of this anticipated collaboration will launch at the Tokyo H&M in November followed by a worldwide rollout for other H&M markets a few days later
"I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business," says Kawakubo of the collaboration. "It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it."
Taking a look at the Fall 2009 Commes Des Garcons innovative and unique collection I am eagerly awaiting Kawakubo’s solution to this balance and hope to be first in line when it launches in the states.
