They came, they went, they returned. Large belts are back big time for Spring 09 and this time, they are bringing loads of embellishments and color along for the ride. It’s true that there was a lot of talk about the skinny belt, but by taking a look at this season’s runways, it is clear that designers are not finished with the “big belt” trend.
Bright colors, heavy beading and geometric shapes are all prominent styles. Paired with mini dresses, jumpsuits and even eveningwear, the trend introduces a modern approach with interesting cutout shapes and fabric choices.
A little kimono flavor with a twist. Marc Jacobs adds his own signature flair with an oversized safety pin on a gathered black and metallic belt.
Missoni sleeks out a printed look with a bronze, horizontal striped belt on a brightly colored mini dress.
BCBG Max Azria adds a little contrast with black belt with a square closure matching the monochromatic, silver jumpsuit.
Things heat up in Elie Tahari’s leopard print pencil skirt cinched at the waist with a heavy, metal belt.
Angelic? She’s no angel. Fendi creates heaven like beauties in white layered dresses paired with aqua, oversized waistbands.
Monique Lhuillier brings the look into her pre-fall 09 collection with a magenta belt on a black, tulle evening gown.
Sick of the oversized belts you have stored away? Try adding a few heavy beads or vintage metals to make the look current.
