FGI is an organization that honors and supports the creativity and acumen of some of today’s most promising emerging young talents with the aim of ensuring the growth and future of fashion-related industries. Up and coming young designer Christian Cota, who at the age of twenty-six launched his namesake line in 2007, has been named the Fashion Group International’s Women’s Wear Rising Star of 2009.
Cota’s passion for design is evident in his detail driven fabrics and innovative hand embroideries. Among the presenters this year at the 12th Annual FGI Rising Stars Award luncheon at the Rainbow Room were Philip Lim, Tory Burch, and Jane Lauder.
Last years women’s wear winner was Jason Wu who is the young designer responsible for the one shoulder ivory gown that First Lady Michelle Obama wore to the Inaugural Galas.
Cota will be presenting his Fall/Winter 2009 Collection on February 13th, 2009 at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
