FULL FRONTAL FASHION

Full Frontal Fashion and New York Fashion Week go hand in hand for me, so when news broke in January that Full Frontal’s production had been put on hold (it has been on the air since 2000), due to Cablevision’s decision to drop their host, Vroom Network, I was distraught at the possibility of not being able to indulge in one of my guilty pleasures (I especially loved when they poll the front row and spoke to all the celebs and buyers). Given that it’s impossible to go see every runway show, Full Frontal was also always instrumental in allowing me to see some of the shows I missed. While FFF as we know it won’t be coming back, exciting things are brewing.

On September 9TH a Full Frontal Fashion site will go live on the Sundance Channel website  and will evolve into a stand-alone site by Spring 2010. Timed to launch in conjunction with New York Fashion Week, (from September 10th thru 17th), the new site will offer a “sophisticated yet accessible look at the world of contemporary fashion, with news, exclusive video and timely dispatches from behind-the-scenes at Fashion Week, exclusive parties and ateliers,” according to a press release.

We can expect the site to feature coverage and analysis of the 2009 CFDA Awards Show including interviews with Anna Sui, Alex Wang, Justin Giunta, Proenza Schouler, Scott Sternberg (Band of Outsiders), Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), Italo Zucchelli (Calvin Klein).  It will also include photographs from Patrick McMullan, who will cover New York Fashion Week with video reports from the shows, and will also post a regular weekly column and photo diary with his highlights of the week’s fashion activities and events and weekly columns by a variety of fashion insiders including Lynn Yaeger, Robin Sayers, Aya Kanai, and Cator Sparks.

In addition to the website, the Sundance Channel will support the initiative on-air with a week of new original productions beginning with the September 9th premiere of “The Day Before” – which I have previously reviewed (http://www.thefashionspot.com/front-row/news/21138-documentary-the-day-before), and highly recommend tuning into to see.
