When it comes to designer wears sold at a discounted price, few outlets can rival the cult like following that Target’s limited edition designer collaborations and Gilt Groupe (an e-commerce site that sells high-end brands at up to 70 percent off) sales have attracted.
The two powerhouses have now teamed up for a very special online sale that begins August 20th and will last through August 22nd. The Target sale on Gilt will be focused exclusively on the retailer’s up-coming Fall limited edition designer collaborations – Tucker, Mulberry, and John Derian – and the merchandise will be on Gilt way before the collections are slated to arrive at Target stores.
Tucker’s print-heavy apparel will hit September 12th and the long awaited Mulberry handbag collection will hit on October 10th.
This is quite the coup for the fast expanding Gilt Groupe, as it is not only securing merchandise ahead of the pieces hitting stores (versus selling past season merchandise), but the sale will serve as a collection preview for countless shoppers around the world. I’m guessing the big question on many women’s minds at this point is – will the Mulberry collection include a version of the Alexa bag?
The Gilt sale will follow the publicity blitz that eschewed as a result of the hyped, large-scale, free public fashion show that Target staged in the West Village, which featured 25 models in Target brands including Mossimo, Merona, and Converse One Star.
As for Target’s winter collaborations, they’ve secured William Rast. The Justin Timberlake line will feature men and women apparel and will be hitting stores December 19th. The focus on the collection will be leather and jeans, and price points are expected to be a bit higher than in previous collections (think $50 for jeans and $200 for leather pieces).
