Viktor & Rolf Spring 2012 Runway Review

Viktor and Rolf’s runway presentations tend to be as much about the show as they are about the fashions. This season designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren had their models walking in and out from a runway opening flanked by sides of a two story candy colored pink pleated skirt on top of which pop duo Brigitte was performing. Fittingly, the designers said they were inspired by doll clothes for their Spring 2012 collection, which consisted of a parade of saturated frocks most of which featured surrealist plays on proportion (chiefly contrastingly hued, oversized stitching).

Oversized belts, oversized lace detailing, and oversized bag clasps, along with crystals and tired ruffles completed the collection. While the lineup occasionally veered on the tacky and costume side there were moments that included utterly wearable garments that played with proportions in refreshing ways – most notably the lapel and button-less fitted jackets.
