In one week Mercedes Benz Fashion Week will begin in New York City’s Bryant Park, kicking-off subsequent Fashion Weeks in London, Milan, and Paris.
The event, which will stretch from September 5th to the 12th, is filled with anticipation as the likes of Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenberg, Carmen Marc Valvo, Cynthia Steffe,Yeohlee, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Betsey Johnson, DKNY, and more will be showcasing their Spring 2009 collections.
Alongside these established heavyweights, Bryant Park newcomers Michael Angel, Charlotte Ronson, Andy & Debb, Thuy, Sergio Davila, Leifsdottir, Aurelio Costarella, and Zheng Luo will be presenting. In addition, there will be smaller scale shows scattered around NYC at various venues.
I’m particularly looking forward to Charlotte Ronson’s collection. It was recently announced that Ronson will be collaborating with Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss for a beach line called Made With Love that will feature bathing suits, towels, and cover-ups that will be hitting stores in February and while I could do without Shoshanna’s cherry-covered bikinis, I love Ronson’s effortlessly chic, a little rocker, a little bohemian, aesthetic. Her Noho boutique (besides clothing, the shop has a wonderful selection of shoes, lingerie, and jewelry), is a must-stop destination. Plus, you gotta love Ronson and her siblings for poking-fun at themselves and dressing-up like the Royal Tenenbaum clan in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
Other shows I’m looking forward to are Yeohlee – who doesn’t love function, comfort, and style all melted into the same garment?
Also, Donna Karen aka the Queen of Seventh Avenue, can never do any wrong in my book. I loved her jewel-toned Fall 2008 collection – only she could pull-off structured tailoring with an easy breezy ease.
Lastly, though he doesn’t show at the tents, I can’t wait to see Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2009 collection. His age-less designs are always breathtakingly classic and could make even the staunchest of tomboys feels like dressing-up.
