If you’re ever tired of fashion which is too conceptual or a bit too full of itself, you might want to take a look at the work of Isabel Marant, who never seems to be trying too hard .
At the Isabel Marant show on Thursday, there were floaty bohemian-print frocks, short, tight dresses in black and grey which hugged the models’ curves (such as they are) and lots of short fur jackets, including one in faux leopard, which rested on the border between daring and bad taste.
More practical items included pants and shorts in shades of tan, grey and olive which managed to seem tapered and appealingly loose at the same time. On the feet were black ankle boots with rows of metal studs around the top.
After, I stopped by Marant’s store on rue Jacob in the sixth arrondissement to look at this season’s collection and get a feel for how the clothes look up close.
Word is, Marant will soon be opening boutiques in New York and Los Angeles.
