Japanese designers are among the most avant-garde and provocative in the world, so it’s little surprise that Japan Fashion Week has been garnering an increasing amount of attention. The fashion business in Japan is blessed with high quality manufacturing and a domestic market with sharp tastes and strong buying capacity. Now they are starting to get the attention they deserve thanks in part to the Council of Fashion Designers, Tokyo (CFD), who has spearheaded the efforts to position Tokyo as a fashion hub.
Designers, manufacturers, and the apparel and retail industries cooperated to establish Japan Fashion Week in June 2005, which now includes textile exhibitions and other fashion events along with the runway shows. Attendance and prominence continually grow.
37 brands will be showing their Fall/Winter 2009/10 collections during Japan Fashion Week from March 23 through the 29th.
