Topshop’s Unique show is almost just as notorious for its dazzling collections as it is for a star studded front row. The likes of Kate Moss, in signature tiny denim shorts, took her seat front row, the epitome of British style.  Surrounding her was a plethora of starlets observing the new collection, including model Liberty Ross, Peaches Geldof (who was rocking her newly-auburned locks), Jaime Winstone, Alexa Chung, Julia Roitfeld, and Jourdan Dunn.

The underground show space (where Topshop Unique has been showing in as long as I can remember) was buzzing, tension was rising, and the audience could not wait to see what the design team had rustled up.

Inspired by “a range of outdoor pursuits popular in the late 70’s West Coast America”, a variety of next season’s must-haves made their way down the catwalk, clinging to the industry’s most respected models. Luxurious fabrics printed with vibrant graffiti with a distinct element of sportswear gave a nod to relaxed, effortless dressing.

Counteracting the femininity of the garments, sportswear detail was present throughout the collection. Distressed fabrics seem to be a firm favorite, with love-worn t-shirts in pebble grey, sand, and aqua. Ripped or burnt out denim was sand washed and covered with fabric patches and decorated with scraps of denim in a darker shade. Pieces destined to sell out in minutes include a faux stingray skin baseball jacket and a white-washed leather blazer. Tangled macramé knits, shark fin frills on tangerine crepe dresses, and a pale pink suede jacket sum up the pretty pastel prefect color palette and interesting detailing.

As always, the accessories were the object of the audience’s desire. Lace up shoes with pale driftwood platforms, and leather granite ankle high sandals with shark fin-esque heels sparked intrigue, as did plastic seahorse charms and conch shell earrings that added to the ever-increasing fondness the fashion industry has with kitsch jewellery.

Styled by Katie Grand, with a front row any press would go crazy for, this collection will be highly sought after come Spring.
