Forget about the unfortunate news that a delivery truck with more than $500,000 worth of Victoria Beckham’s line of namesake dresses was hijacked at knifepoint in London over the weekend while en route to New York City – there’s no feeling sorry for the millionaire diva. VB’s line of dresses has been growing more and more successful over the course of the last four seasons, and with that comes the confidence to take more control, I suppose, because news has just hit that the fashionista is taking her denim and eyewear collections in-house.
Each of the two collection have been revamped and renamed, and have just now hit net-a-porter.com and a few stores. The svelte Beckham remarked that she thinks this key to her label’s success has been the fact that she has been building her brand gradually, adding that she still plans on being in the fashion scene 25 to 30 years from now – “it’s about finding the right time, the right team. With everything that I do, I will only do it after I’ve done all my homework. I really am a perfectionist, and I don’t want to rush anything. It’s not just about putting my name on a product and getting it out there. That’s not what is important to me.”
Beckham is undoubtedly one of the most influential style icons of our time – for better or worse – and like the Olsen twins, does genuinely seem very hands on in the design process with the line clearly reflecting her personal aesthetic.
VB’s dress, denim, and sunglass business is estimated to generate $7.5 million in sales next year. So, as much as I hate to admit it (especially since Roland Mouret has had quite the hand in her dress collection), VB’s sucess seems very well deserved, and I for one covet a number of her namesake pieces.
