This weekend, headliner acts like The Killers, Empire of the Sun, Kings of Leon and Beck attracted an estimated 60,000 people to Las Vegas for the first-ever Life is Beautiful festival, which featured musicians, artists, chefs and speakers from across the country (and world). By all measures a success (one local restaurant reported serving over 450 pounds of avocado and 144 bottles of tequila to attendees), the festival is expected to occur again next year.
Life is Beautiful was organized by The Downtown Project, a group led by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, which aims to revitalize the city's Downtown neighborhood. Zappos recently relocated its entire company to the area and is hoping other tech and startup companies follow suit, transforming the city into a major American hub for culture and innovation.
