TREND: CARNATION RED

We need to see a little color in our wardrobes during the cold, winter months, and for Pre-Fall 2010 collections, designers weren’t holding back. Carnation red and hot cherry tones were seen all over the runway. A bright overcoat, a vibrant evening gown, and day wear ensembles mixed with red pieces gave these looks an upbeat attitude. Carnation red screams energy without the traditional red color headache.

Designers want to make an entrance, but not a spectacle of themselves. These aren’t looks for the fabulous Lady Gaga. Paired with black, the color looks sleek and modern, and with a little dark makeup, a cherry red evening gown can look a little ominous.

Not quite bright, this subdued red in a chiffon gown by Temperley is an ethereal dream.

A constructed dress in a vibrant red bounces off the black tights and slicked back hair strutted by models at the Zac Posen fashion show.

Narcisco Rodriguez creates a modern silhouette in this above-the-knee overcoat in cherry red.

Gorgeous with Grecian draping in a carnation red, this J Mendel gown is seductive without trying too hard.

Matching can work – Philip Lim shows off a double-breasted jacket with matching short shorts, platform heels, and handbag.

Color can be so much fun, and this tone works on both pale and tanned skin tones. Add a little splash next season to brighten up your winter blacks.
