LFW: ASHISH S/S 2010

Queue’s were building up, masses looked forward to what would indefinitely be a glitzy collection, and the London Fashion Week security guards were out in full force as excitement started to brew for Ashish’s Spring/Summer collection. Always fun, always exciting, and always featuring sequins, Ashish’s show promised to be uplifting and shake things up during the midday slump.

Ashish always manages to create a collection that is both wearable and fashion forward. Teaching us to embrace our inner party girl, lashings of sequins and vibrant prints featured in his collection which was both coherent and funky.

Letting the dresses dominate, the collection drew inspirations from “summer vacations, holiday romance and faraway places.” Think bum bags, visors and dresses emblazoned with a sequined homage to the Eiffel Tower.

Spike studding embellished many of the pieces and added a much needed twist to the collection. Tie-dyed denim served as a break from the sequin heavy garments.

Roisin Murphy, Paloma Faith, Michelle Williams, and VV Brown (sans coif) sat front row to show support to the beloved Ashish label. The audience was in awe of the eye-popping dresses  featuring world landmarks and attractions like the Mona Lisa, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. Hawaiian styled prints, flowers, palm trees, flamingos and toucans, appeared on shorts, bomber jackets and shoulder-padded T-shirts.

Cartoon-styled clouds and flamingoes also received the sequin effect, as well as a remarkable sunset. Evoking deep nostalgia for the past summer, and excitement for the next, Ashish produced a collection to appeal to the inner party girl in all of us. Bold, vibrant, tongue-in-cheek and dripping in sequins – so intriguing, so Ashish.
