Third Time Isn’t a Charm for Bella Hadid on the Cover of Vogue Japan

Is there any stopping Bella Hadid? The model continues to add an impressive amount of work to her ever-growing portfolio. In 2019 alone, the current face of Versace and Moschino scored a total of four Vogue covers (including American Vogue‘s digital cover in April). Now Bella has landed a fifth for July 2019. Vogue Japan welcomes Bella back (following in the footsteps of Vogue Spain), marking Bella’s third cover appearance on the Japanese fashion bible. Captured by photographic duo Luigi & Iango and styled by Paul Cavaco, Bella wears a jacquard Louis Vuitton jacket and pants a la Emma Stone on British Vogue.

But the cover was a total flop. “Just tragic. Horrible lighting on her face. When will these Vogues realize that it isn’t cool to share the same freaking girls that are on the covers every damn month,” ranted Gabriel29.

“Wow, another zombie face cover from Bella, give us a break!” pleaded Miss Dalloway.

“Her face looks really unpleasant here, like she’s being forced to use a public toilet,” declared Melancholybaby.

“This girl again? My God, is she the only model available or what? Because she doesn’t have anything special that any other model can’t offer. This cover is tragic,” proclaimed Perickles.

“Forgettable and lazy. Where’s the modeling?” asked TommysBaby.

KateTheGreatest felt the same way: “Her face looks the same in every photo. Before opening the thread I know what her expression will look like.”

Also not exactly jumping for joy was Benn98: “Bella fatigue aside, I don’t like the cover at all. It just looks drab and forgettable, plus that wretched LV look is even worse here. Pass!”

Brilliant or Boring? Gisele Bündchen Covers Vogue Paris for the 11th Time

Emmanuelle Alt is notorious for welcoming back cover girls to the cover of Vogue Paris time and time again. It was just last month that Rianne van Rompaey scored her second cover within three months and now Gisele Bündchen is back for her 11th cover appearance on the French fashion bible — surprising not a single one of our forum members. The cover shoot took place on the Caribbean island of Nevis (albeit the supermodel was photographed up against a white backdrop for the two cover images) with Mikael Jansson behind the lens and Emmanuelle on styling duties for the title’s June/July 2019 edition. In cover one (below), the current face of Missoni strikes a pose in a black and white Chanel swimsuit and sports a Louis Vuitton jacket in cover two (after the jump).

Gisele’s comeback had our forums divided. “Really? Gisele on a June/July cover for French Vogue? Groundbreaking,” announced an underwhelmed Lax89.

“Such a transparent money grab. Alt’s VP may be the most directional of the top four, but she’s the least daring of them all when it comes to cover subjects,” Benn98 added.

“I’m so tired of the VP model cycle. Edie [Campbell], Kate [Moss], Gisele [Bündchen] or Anna [Ewers], for how many years now? Is there really only like 10 good models in this world in Alt’s eyes?” questioned WilliamsLe010919.

Also far from impressed was apple: “Soooo lazy, from the choice of the model to the styling, from the background to the photography.”

But Miss Dalloway wasn’t complaining. “Love it, garish art direction and all! It’s Gisele that once again elevates even bad art direction, that is why her brand and model service will never go out of fashion! She will be booking covers for the rest of her life because she is that good and she sells!”

“I am actually happy to see Gisele. I suppose she is a safe choice, but then again at least she always delivers,” reasoned KateTheGreatest.

“It’s such a cliché, Gisele for a summer Vogue Paris cover, but damn it that hair and that body, it works every time,” Melancholybaby admitted.

Not Even Bella Hadid Can Save Vogue Spain’s June 2019 Cover

You’re no doubt aware of the fact that our forums have a love-hate relationship with Bella Hadid. There’s no denying Bella gives good face fronting the likes of Allure, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and Vogue Greece. But sometimes mags can get it oh so wrong (we’re looking at you Vogue Japan and Vogue China). Now we can add Vogue Spain to the not-so-distinguished list. Bella makes her second appearance on the Spanish fashion bible for June 2019. Shot down on the beach by Zoey Grossman, Bella looks caught off guard wearing Paco Rabanne in the awkward and unflattering shot.

According to our forums, the newsstand cover (above) was a total miss. “Bella looks like she’s been stranded on the beach for days. Very grimy, but not in a sultry way,” critiqued Benn98.

“Don’t like it. Looks like she’s walking home in a drunken daze. Unflattering angle,” said liv4beauty.

“This is such an awkward pose and not a shot I would pick out for a cover, in any shape or form. Looks very cheap to me I’m afraid,” 333101 chimed in.

In agreement over the questionable shot was TommysBaby: “It just doesn’t look like a cover image.”

“Terrible angle, terrible cover. I’m so terribly sick and tired of Kendull, Bella and their crew. I know I sound like an echo chamber, but how is it possible these painted corpses still sell covers. What is wrong with the world. I’ve had it, officially,” ranted Vitamine W.

Then the digital cover dropped and completely heightened our spirits. “Wow, the digital cover is stunning,” exclaimed tjasmine.

Vogue28 felt the same way, raving, “Absolutely head over heels for that digital cover, and rather dumbfounded as to how Eugenia de la Torriente failed to make that shot the newsstand cover! The industry is supposedly trying to keep print alive… and here’s Vogue Spain giving digital the better cover. Ugh!”

Pamela Anderson’s the Ultimate Blond Bombshell on Vogue Czechoslovakia’s June 2019 Covers

More often than not, we’re greeted by the usual suspects down at the newsstand, but Vogue Czechoslovakia throws us a major curveball for June 2019. Give it up for none other than Pamela Anderson who, after decades in the spotlight, finally becomes a Vogue cover girl at 51 (this month’s looking pretty good on the age diversity front). Shot by Dan Beleiu on location in Côte d’Azur, Pamela is the ultimate blond bombshell in a trio of sultry, summery and utterly amazing covers.

The covers pleased our forum members to no end. “I still don’t think there’s any use for this many covers, but damn Pamela looks gorgeous in this Brigitte Bardot-esque styling and setting. The first one is very classic Vogue, makes me long for hot summers,” commented dodencebt.

“I love it! It’s fresh and playful! And I’ve always loved Pamela,” GinAndTonic confessed.

“I love this… a bit of energy and fun,” praised KissMiss.

Nomar agreed, writing, “Honestly didn’t know what to expect when I saw the title, but I actually really like this. All three covers are solid and the vintage styling is so good. A little bit cheeky and fun.”

Also full of enthusiasm was jorgepalomo: “This is unexpected and stunning! The second cover is the best by far.”

“I love her and she still looks hot! Beautiful photos and a lot of fun!” raved an equally impressed Perickles.

“She’s such a random choice for a Vogue cover anywhere, but these are beautiful, especially the second one,” declared mepps.

“The first cover is all the magazine needed to make an impact. The profile shot, the black Saint Laurent, the blonde, the beach setting and the fact it’s Pamela Anderson’s first ever cover of Vogue. I’m a fan to the point where I might just have to buy this!” said vogue28.

Zelda Zonk liked it, too. “Love Pamela and love the covers, the scenery and Pamela are really gorgeous, it totally makes me want to buy the issue.”

Sharon Stone Stars on Vogue Portugal’s Marvelous May 2019 Covers

It’s official: Vogue Portugal is the new Vogue Italia. The magazine has consistently delivered the goods, going toe-to-toe with other heavyweight titles, like American Vogue and British Vogue. It was just last month that the mag broke new ground with a pair of brilliant Alek Wek and Thando Hopa covers and now it’s delighted us yet again with a set of Sharon Stone covers for May. The actress sizzles on the dynamic covers, both shot by Branislav Simoncik.

Needless to say, the majority of our forum members were delighted. “Love Sharon! The first cover is stunning, 61 never looked so good,” expressed mepps.

“Another unexpected cover subject that I fully get behind. This seems to be a recurring theme for magazines this month. Love the first cover,” echoed Ken Doll Jenner.

“Wow at that first cover! I absolutely love it,” declared GinAndTonic.

“I love the cover in the water. Not sure why, but I’ve always liked her for whatever reason,” chimed in lelaid.

But not everyone was impressed. “Wow, unexpected choice, and while I really like Sharon a lot, the first cover was enough. My only gripe is the unnecessary Photoshop. This could have been such a more powerful shot if her actual face with wrinkles showed on the water cover,” Benn98 critiqued.

Also quick to question the post-production was mikel: “I have a hard time recognizing Sharon Stone in the second cover.”

“Why produce meh content when you have Sharon Stone? Are they mad?” asked dontbeadrag.

Kendall Jenner Scores Her Second Vogue Australia Cover

Kendall Jenner’s portfolio is looking pretty good right now, having amassed a healthy amount of blue-chip advertising campaigns and magazine covers in recent months. She’s the current face of Roberto Cavalli, Stuart Weitzman, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co. and has recently been on the cover of Allure, Vogue Italia and Vogue Russia. So we aren’t surprised to see Vogue Australia welcoming the model of the moment back on its cover for a second time. Shot by Charles Dennington and styled by Jillian Davison, Kendall sits perched in Saint Laurent and jewelry from Tiffany & Co. in the June 2019 cover shot.

“This is so bad,” proclaimed caioherrero the moment the cover struck.

“And here I thought she was getting better. This is rather pathetic at this point,” wrote marsnoop2.

Sharing the same lack of enthusiasm was Benn98: “Come on, Denno! You’re better than this. I don’t think it’s an awful cover, just that the retouching on her face is crazy. Everything is just too perfect and android-like.”

“Ugly cover. Not just because of Kendull. Nothing works,” complained mikel.

“Might as well hire a mannequin and you wouldn’t know the difference,” ranted Style Savvy.

Hafyiez wafa soon asked, “Why does Vogue Australia always use that ugly font?”

“How can Vogue magazine, in 2019, think that text looks acceptable?” echoed MyNameIs.

“Oh no, what a bad shot. And to make it even worse…that hideous text,” declared apple.
